Australian Flood Tax

January 24, 2011

The Australian PM is considering a new tax to help pay for the massive flooding in Queensland. Queensland accounts for 19% of the countries economic output.

This is interesting though, because either:
A: you don’t live in Queensland and will be mad about having an extra tax for someone else’s troubles, or
B: you do live there and your home/business has been wrecked and you will also have to kick in some extra tax money.

No politician wants to raise taxes, they want to keep their jobs. They will “extend an pretend” until the problem just won’t go away. The flood here is a good euphemism for economic problems here. The outcome will be interesting.
